Copy New (Nested)

Overview

Copy New creates a duplicate of a selected component, including all nested components. The new component and its subcomponents are placed in the same location as the original files, with unique numeric indexes, and can be modified independently. This command is ideal for duplicating assemblies that require changes to both the main component and its nested subcomponents.

The index for each new file is assigned automatically to ensure uniqueness; for details on how file names and indexes are managed, see File Names.

How It Works

  1. Select a component to copy.
  2. Click the location for the new component.
  3. The command creates new duplicate copies of the selected component and all nested subcomponents in the same folder as the original files.
  4. Each new file receives a unique index and can be modified independently.
  5. Static files are not copied and are listed in the logger output. See Static and Library Files.

Usage Instructions

  1. Select the component you want to copy.
  2. Click the Copy New button in the Configure panel.
  3. Choose the location for the new component.
  4. Modify the new component and its subcomponents as needed.

Troubleshooting

  1. If new components are not created, verify the selection and file location.
  2. Ensure the original component and subcomponents are not locked or in use.
  3. Check for naming conflicts in the destination folder.
  4. Review the logger output for static files that were not copied.

Examples

  1. Duplicate a duct route with all fittings: Use Copy New to create a new assembly, then modify as needed.
  2. Duplicate a subsystem with nested assemblies: Select the subsystem and use Copy New to create a duplicate with new indexes for all files.
